When considering a location for the 2012 mammal society meeting we decided an out of city location was the way to go. This both encourages people to explore a different part of the country that they may not otherwise visit and helps to foster networking within the membership of the society in a friendly and social atmosphere. Port Augusta was selected for this years meeting as it presents the opportunity to highlight some of the mammal issues in arid and semi-arid australia. Port Augusta is known as the 'crossroads of Australia' - a junction where the sea meets the outback. It is also a focal area for mammal reintroductions in South Australia and lies within a breathtaking environment backdroppped by the Flinders Ranges.
The organising committee welcomes all those interested in Australian mammals, their ecology, biology, management and conservation to join us in Port Augusta. You will be treated to an exciting scientific and social program including both marine mammal and reintroduction symposia and the scientific meeting.
